Winterthur Collection Oddy Tests
Treatment performed at: Winterthur Museum
Overseen by Conservator: Joelle Wickens
Eleven materials proposed for future exhibitions at Winterthur museum were subjected to a 28-day test in a Forced Air Oven at 60°C. The materials tested were Coroplast, Arreis®, fiberboard, 3M laminating film, Uline Press-on envelopes, Planatol, and four samples of Sherwin Williams Interior Pro Mar 200 Zero VOC of different ages . With the help of a fellow interns, test tubes for each material were prepared in triplicate. Preparation of the testubes involved the hand-polishing of copper, lead, and silver coupons, the weighing of each sample, and the sealing of each test tube with both Teflon tape and Parafilm. Opening of the test tubes and assessment of the reactivity of the exhibition materials was performed by the WUDPAC Class of 2019.
