Marion Hunter Jr. Magnetic Photo Album, 1954-1975

Treatment performed at the private conservation studio of paper and photograph conservator Marion Hunter Jr. in Charleston, S.C.

Scrapbook of photographs, newspaper clippings, and miscellaneous paper memorabilia, assembled by the aforementioned's mother, deteriorating self-adhesive pages were fused to and staining the artifacts, determined that the artifacts should be separated and reassembled on new album pages made of archival materials laid out identically to the original, required thorough documentation and treatment of photographs and newspaper 

Process: Disassembly and Reassembly

Step 1. Gently separate mylar from pages

Step 2. Separate objects from the adhesive with archival spatulas

Step 3. Original pages were documented and saved

Step 4. Photographs were surface cleaned when applicable

Step 5. Photographs and newspaper clipping were floated on water

Step 6. Floating reduced yellowing and flattened the objects
